Website Launch: Freedom for Living

Last week we launched Freedom for Living. The Freedom girls have been working really hard over the past few months putting together their motivational seminars and programs.

We helped pull it together with a sexy logo, web design and custom web development using our own open CMS, TagFactory. The site includes ecommerce for course bookings.

Website Launch: Socks for Living

We’ve just launched Socks for Living, a pure-play online retailer dedicated to socks.

The ecommerce development is in Magento with our own custom web design and killer SEO (really they ranked in the Top 10 for “buy socks online” in the first week and are still there!)

Google Magazine: Think Quarterly

Who would have thought we’d be adding one of Google’s sites to the Hottest 100 Web Design Lists?

Google have created a lovely magazine layout of their quarterly publication aimed at their partners and advertisers. It is aimed at the UK audience, not sure if there is one for the US. It certainly looks English. The layout and style has a relaxed feel to it, large custom fonts, excellent use of white space and colourful illustrations. Outstanding web design by the big G!

Web Design Myths Busted

If you are designing a new website and show it to anyone I guarantee they will have an opinion on it. It could be as simple as “that logo needs to be bigger” or “that green doesn’t look right with the green in the footer” or bizarre like “Throw in a kitten, too. Everyone loves kittens!”

You need to visit UX Myths. Here are all of the myths you’ve probably heard before like “White space is wasted space” and “Accessibility is expensive and difficult” and very good reasons why these are just myths. UX Myths debunks many myths your clients and critics may have about your web design and will allow you to try and remove the emotion involved in web design.

My favourite: People always use your product the way you imagined they would. Getting your mum or dad to use the sites you build will open your eyes to how different generations navigate their way through the www.

Online Retail to take off in Australia

I say this every year, but this year it seems people are starting to agree with me. We are just so far behind the rest of the world when it comes to online retail, there’s still so much room for online stores to get in now and dominate.

We’ve already seen an increase in enquiries into development of online stores, with a lot of interest in Magento eCommerce. As Jack Aboutboul, the Community Engineer at Red Hat says,

“Magento is going to win the eCommerce software war, hands down. I’ve never seen another ecommerce platform well architected and well designed as Magento.”

The folks over at StartupSmart Daily have figures to make your head spin about the increased spend in Australian online retail. Read about online sales doubling from $16.9 billion to $33.3 billion over 6 years.
